Modern Combat Martial Arts

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

1. What is Modern Combat Martial Arts (MCMA)?
Modern Combat Martial Arts (MCMA) is a training school that teaches the White Lotus System of Unarmed Combat. Specifically, we teach the physical mechanics, exercises, and training protocols of the system. Our structured curriculum guides students through the Six Core Fighting Skills—Guarding, Striking, Blocking, Parrying, Grappling, and Throwing—via a progressive belt system from White to Black Belt.

2. What is the White Lotus System?
The White Lotus System is a complete science-based framework for understanding and executing unarmed combat. It consists of two distinct components:

  • Physical Mechanics: The exercises, movement protocols, and drills that develop combat skill. This is what MCMA teaches.
  • Elemental Framework: The intellectual property contained within the six elemental categories (Human, Biomechanical, Combative, Processing, Psychology, Environmental). This explains the cause-and-effect relationships behind the mechanics. This requires separate access to the White Lotus System Digital Library.

3. What’s the difference between learning the mechanics and the elements?

  • Mechanics (MCMA Focus): Learning the what and how. This involves replicating precise forms, following strict training protocols (like the 9-step guard protocol), and developing physical proficiency through mirror neuron replication from demonstrations.
  • Elements (Digital Library): Learning the why. This involves studying the definitions, interactions, and strategic applications of the six elemental categories to understand how specific arrangements create predictable combative outcomes.

4. Can I learn just the physical mechanics?
Yes. The MCMA curriculum is complete for physical skill development from White Belt (beginner) through Intermediate Skill Development (ISD) Black Belt. Many students train exclusively with us to build a strong mechanical foundation for self-defense or personal development without immediately pursuing the deeper elemental theory.

5. How do I access the elemental education?
The White Lotus System Digital Library is a separate product requiring its own purchase. It contains the complete intellectual framework of the system. MCMA instructors can guide you on how to integrate this theoretical knowledge with your physical practice once you have access.

6. Are MCMA belts recognized by the White Lotus System?
MCMA awards belts based on demonstrated proficiency in the White Lotus System’s physical mechanics and protocols. Our standards are derived from the system’s curriculum. The White Lotus System maintains its own comprehensive standards for mastery that include both mechanical and elemental understanding.

7. Can I train both mechanics and elements at the same time?
Yes, and this is the path to the most complete understanding. The typical integrated journey involves:

  • Building mechanical proficiency through the MCMA curriculum (online or in-person).
  • Studying the theory and relationships in the White Lotus Digital Library.
  • Synthesizing the two through practice, application drills, and instructor guidance.

8. Why are the mechanics and elements separated?
This separation serves two key purposes:

  1. It respects the intellectual property (IP) of the White Lotus System, protecting its unique framework.
  2. It allows students to begin effective, unambiguous physical training immediately, while providing a clear, optional pathway to the deep theoretical science when they are ready.

9. What if I only want physical training for self-defense?
That is a perfectly valid goal. The MCMA mechanical curriculum is designed to be effective on its own for developing real-world competency. You can achieve a high level of applied skill through our structured progression in the Six Core Fighting Skills without purchasing the Digital Library.

10. What is Advanced Skill Development (ASD)?
Advanced Skill Development refers to the mastery of elemental orchestration—the highest level of the White Lotus System. ASD is taught exclusively by Grand Master Brian K. Leishman, the system’s creator. Progression to this level is by his personal evaluation and instruction only.

11. Do you offer training for kids?
Yes. Our Youth Program adapts the foundational mechanics of the White Lotus System into age-appropriate, fun, and engaging games and drills. The focus is on building confidence, discipline, coordination, and basic mechanical skills in a positive, safe environment.

12. What online training options do you offer?
We offer two primary online pathways:

  • The MCMA Online Curriculum: A full Skool.com community hosting our complete physical mechanics curriculum with video lessons, structured weekly progressions, and a student forum.
  • Private Zoom Coaching: One-on-one sessions focused on correcting your form, answering questions, and personalizing your mechanical training.

13. How do I get started?
Your starting point depends on your goals:

  • For physical skill development, begin with the MCMA curriculum, either online or via in-person private lessons.
  • For complete system mastery, you will eventually need both the MCMA mechanical training and access to the White Lotus System Digital Library.
  • We recommend all new students start by building a solid mechanical foundation.
